Research Interests

In general, I am interested in the mechanical behavior of materials, with a specific interest in the complex porous materials encountered in civil engineering. The eventual goal of my research program is to discover and apply a new fundamental understanding of the materials used in civil engineering for the improvement of engineering performance, including durability and sustainability, at structural scales.

I am primarly an experimentalist, with a specific interest in experimental micromechanics, which takes advantage of advanced measurement techniques such as nanoindentation and atomic force microscopy to study the mechanical behavior of complex materials at small scales. At the same time, experimentation and modeling motivate and inform each other and work together to help obtain a deeper understanding of material problems.
