About Me

Hello! I am Jacob Malter, and I am a freshman at NC State University.

Computer science is my major. Taking some high school classes lead to choosing computer science. Scientific Visualization 1 & 2 explored science, technology, engineering, and math. I liked those classes. Working in those fields became my plan. CS50x, an online introductory computer science course, covered basic computer science concepts, binary, html, java, and other related material. Having enjoyable programming experience provided a good reason to choose computer science.

Building things, from computers to ballistas to programs, consumes my time. Good computer builds require effort. Each part must match with other parts or else the computer never turns on. When building a computer with many parts, there are many ways to make mistakes. With all this trouble, turning on a completed, working build for the first time feels like a real accomplishment.

My current building project is for the Firefighting Drone Challenge. I'm in Airframe team 1. Our primary goal is to build a flying drone. The frame in the pictures below, the Turnigy Talon Tricopter Carbon Fiber Frame, is used in our design.

As of Sunday (10/27), the frame rests in EB III in Dr. Silverberg's lab. Two orders, one for motors and rotors, and another for electronics, are being shipped to NC State.
