My research is focused on anadromous fishes - species that live in the ocean but spawn in coastal rivers. Important anadromous species in North Carolina include striped bass, American shad, hickory shad, blueback herring, alewife, and Atlantic sturgeon. I am also interested in population dynamics and stock assessment, and in particular, methods of estimating population parameters such as tagging and hydroacoustics.
