Welcome to Jacob Crew's NCSU Major info

Hello, I am Jacob Crew. I am currently freshman in Textile Engineering in the College of Textiles. I want to become a Textile Engineer because Textiles is one of the few materials in the world that we as a civilized society come in contact with and use every day of our lives. This is not just limited to clothing, as Textiles is a vital part of so many other things from furniture to even some forms of biomedical transplants. Out of all the things in Textiles, I am especially intrested in the production of and quality control/testing of military grade Kevlar vests, and other similar forms of ballistic vests. Aside from that, I am also intrested in changing our country's current economic dependence of using foreign factories for various Textile products that we use today.

My favourite hobby is without a doubt sailing on the Neuse River. Over the summer I worked at a summer camp called Camp Don Lee which is a United-Methodist based Sailing camp for kids ages 6 to 18 as a camp counsellor. While admittedly I am not that good at all the technical riggings or knots of sailing, I immensely enjoy sailing on those ever turbulent waters of the Neuse river. There are few times and places in today's buisy and loud society where you can be individually pitched against mothers nature's mercy while at the same time be basking in its pure beauty on the water while sailing. Unforchantly, I am unable to join NCSU's Sailing club as my current classes conflict with the Sailing Club's meetings.
