My name is Matthew Cox and I am a freshman in the CALS program. I am majoring in Agriculture & Environmental Technology. I chose this major because my father attended State with a concentration in agriculture and recommended this as an easier major to get into after talking with several people within the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences. My original intent was to enroll in the College of Engineering but I was deferred and accepted into the university as an Agriculture & Environmental Technology major instead. I intend to transfer into the College of Engineering as soon as I am eligible to major in mechanical engineering. I chose to be an engineering major because I am very strong in the fields of math and science and I love problem solving and developing new ways to do things. I would like to use my engineering knowledge to work with machinery in the field of agriculture if possible.

My favorite break was spring break of sophomore year. My family and I took a trip out west that began in San Diego, California where we took a sea kayak tour and saw Dr. Seuss's house. We then rented a car and drove to Las Vegas. Along the way we stopped by the Grand Canyon to marvel at its beauty. After a night in Las Vegas we travelled to Flag Staff, Arizona and stopped by and drove across the Hoover Dam. Once in Flag Staff we drove up to Snow Bowl for the day where we spent the day skiing and snowboarding. It was a lot of fun and I would love to go back.
