Hey, my name's Patrick, and I'm a freshman here at NC State. My intended Major is Civil Engineering, and hopefully I'll have officially CODA'd into the program after this semester. For nearly as long as I can remember I've known that I wanted to be some kind of Engineer, but I chose Civil Engineering because of the many STEM activities I did in high school, and how much I enjoyed the activities in which I was tasked to design and build something to be structurally sound. Building has always been fun to me, and although that's not exactly what Civil Engineers do, I know I'll still enjoy making sure it is safe for other people to build infrastructure of all kinds.

My favorite hobby is building load-bearing, and structurally efficient Balsa wood bridges, and other structures. I got started with this formally through my high school's Science Olympiad program, but even before that as I child I loved building things with Legos, Lincoln Logs, and Tinker Toys. Over the course of my sophomore year of high school I was fascinated with designing and building better and better structures for that year's event. I rode this wave of interest into my junior and senior years, the latter where I won the state gold medal in the event, and won a scholarship to NC State for doing just that.
