Paul Wagner's Resume

My intended degree track is Biomedical Engineering. I will be getting this degree from NC State University. My graduation will be in the Spring of 2020.

For What Did I Choose My Path?

I Chose to do Biomedical engineering because of numerous things and experiences I have been fortunate enough to have. In the summer preceding 8th grade, I went through an enrichment summer program for STEM inclined students, and during this program, we visited a research lab for regenerative medicine. In this lab, they were taking pig cells from pig kidneys to leave the collagen matrix that is the basis of all animal organs and replacing the aforementioned pig cells with human cells to make a finctioning human kidney. this made me want to work with regenerative medicine. Now, as funny as it sounds, my focus on organs came from a movie I watched where a man's job was to "reposess" people's mechanical organs that replaced their original ones that had failed. Long story short, this made me want to work on technology that could either grow fully functioning, cellular copies of organs, or create mechanical ones so I could eliminate the organ waiting list.
