Claire Vallery - NC State University

Welcome to my personal profile

My name is Claire Vallery. I am a freshman at North Carolina State University GO PACK! I am a first year engineering major with Chemical Engineering intent. I chose ChemE because I worked in a biomedical engineering lab at Duke during my senior year of high school at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. I am thinking about a nano science concentration because I am very interested in nano particle design and drug delivery.

Last year at Duke I worked in the Chilkoti Lab. I worked on genetically engineered peptide polymers that formed coacervates at varying transition temperatures. These polymers form depots when injected intravenously. Over time the depot releases GLP-1, the trigger for insulin production. In Type-2 diabetes, production of GLP-1 is inhibited. These depots allow for a steadier drug concentration profile and are much safer than daily insulin injections.

Nano science is really cool, but it's kind of confusing at first. Here's something less confusing. Dogs and cats are very different. Dogs are nice and cuddly. Cats are catty and smell bad. I hope you're okay with that.
