My name is Lydia Ashburn, and I am a freshman majoring in biomedical engineering (BME). BME interests me because it embodies both the engineering and medical fields of study. Both of these fields interest me greatly as I want to study the science of the human body and build/modify devices to improve quality of life for disease patients. I also want to study tissue generation and possibly obtain a minor in it. Eventually, I want to study and improve access to medical technologies in developing countries.

My favorite hobby is exercising. I exercise whenever I have free time which is not often. Amongst my extracurricular commitments, homework assignments, and E115 tasks, I am extremely busy and therefore do not have as much time to exercise as I wish I did. If there is time during the day, I go running outside typically down Hillsborough Street. I go to Carmichael Gymnasium afterwards to lift weights. If it is too dark outside to go running, I go straight to the gym and run on the treadmill and then lift weights. Exercising makes me feel great both mentally and physically.
