Coastal Engineering at NC State

Beaches are critical coastal resources that are threatened by severe storm events and long-term erosion.  Our research program provides the essential spatial and temporal data needed for understanding shoreline erosion processes.  Furthermore, we develop and implement engineering models utilizing these data for identifying and predicting future hazard areas.  This research is used for identifying coastal areas that are at particular risk and this may potentially lead to preventative actions for mitigating catastrophic storm events.

Research Interests

Coastal processes, beach and dune erosion, coastal hazard identification and response strategies to improve the resilience of coastal environments. Modeling and analysis of both short term and long term impacts due to storms and sea level rise.
